Toasted Marshmellows

Toasted Marshmellows

Fire crackles in the grate
paper bag rustles, filled with
gooey yummy marshmellows
all ready for the fire

Impaled on a long stick
and held above the blaze
flames climb higher, reaching upward
charring white to black

The stick dips lower
the flames leap higher
marshmellows turn into infernos

A sigh, a shrug
I guess I won't be eating this one
perhaps the next one will not
have the stuffing burnt out of it

Taff made me do it

Submarine Explosion
(an exploration of underwater Haiku)

Oh so deep below
in whale kingdom's single breath
lava dynamite

There is a mountain
breathing fire, smoke and pain
who's blood flows seaward

Lord of the darkness
ten limbs sharp teeth tyranny
under's emperor

boiling rock appears
kicking underwater butt
and breaking scepture

the land benarth wave
has now changed forevermore
King Squid unemployed

Rain and Red Wine

Rain and Red Wine

Wasabi can, and does, make me cry
I cry for the passion
and for the enthusiasm
with which it reams
my sinuses with lava

Raindrops too, make my eyes fill with tears
I shiver with the shock
and the wind and the lightning
as I get soaked
to the skin in the rain

Merlot, and shiraz, roll from a bottle
they half fill a tumbler
and swirl as red ink
within my etched glass
making my tummy fatter

Whisky from Scotland, or Ireland, or Kiwiland
began life in a barley field
fifteen years before
under the sun
when I had more sense

This world has passion, pain, and spice
so why do we need to add
condiments and dressings
our ketchup and pepper
when the rain is so nice on it's own?
