a faint hope

You are getting colder and I can tell you are dying.
Your breathing becomes softer as the light fades from your eyes.
You are dying.
You have slipped from my grasp and now I must watch as you sink down to meet the mystery of far away.
I see your colour wash away into black and with it the heat of my soul.
A million tiny candles are lit in your memory but they cannot replace the fire that was you.
I watch and wait, knowing you are dead.
Dawn pales the sky, the candles fade, and you return
You are born again.
You are the new day.
Ah, Bugger it. I'm still on call...
