under lights

The MotoGP season got underway with a night race at Qatar. After two seasons of under par performance by Rossi (i.e. not winning the title) everyone expected him to come out firing, and he did. Starting from 7th on the grid he slotted into 4th and then up into 2nd by end of lap 2. Pedrosa had made a blinding start getting out of turn 1 in first after starting 8th, and held off Rossi until lap five where he snuck into the lead.
Rossi was out in front for awhile....

The rest of the race he mainly went backwards - got dumped upon by Stoner and Lorenzo
by lap nine, had a 4 lap fight with Pedrosa for 3rd, then dropped back into the clutches of Dovizioso, Toseland and Edwards eventually finishing fifth. Rossi has the same engine as Lorenzo (2nd place), the same tires as Stoner (winner) , and was faster than both Lorenzo and Pedrosa in a straight line (326 vs 323 kmph). He will have some excuse I'm sure - and he will win multiple GPs this year, but he's not looking like a title contender again. Lorenzo though, Stoner better keep his head down. Edwards is looking cool, and Toseland is definitely the first genuine British chance for bloody ages.
Watch out for the chupperchup dude

The first F1 is tomorrow, and will coincide nicely with a planned power outage on my street from 0800 to 1700. Buggers, the lot of them.
