stumped

Am stumped by your pic: it has 1930's round slick tyres with fairly racey camber, and is on some road circuit. It appears to have too much body work (i.e. heavy bits, see Top Gear S10E1 for heavy bits reduction) like mud guards and seems to have little or no radiator opening that one would expect for a long GP race. The pic is a little foreshortened but it looks unlikely to be a rear mounted engine. It has a brit flag on it, and maybe the number 2. Haven't the foggiest: ?early 30's something...

The 1991 Australian GP is nearly right. It was the other wet Adelaide race: 1989. The Benetton B191 from 1991 was mostly yellow, but it didn't have a yellow rear wing (or Camel sponsorship). It was Piquet however, in the Lotus 101 - he DNF'ed, but his teammate Nakajima managed to finish 4th. The 1989 race had the highest number of DNFs of any of the 11 Adelaide GPs - 18 and was won by Boutsen.
