petrol fumes

James Toseland and Casey Stoner
Casey Stoner won the Phillip Is MotoGP in style, leading from the first corner after being 3rd on the grid. His teammate Capirossi made it a Ducati double, and the race also sealed the manufacturers and teams titles. Not a bad weekend for the red bikes. In the world superbike championship, the previous SBK champ from Sheffield, James Toseland, has won the SBK title on his Honda, his other title being on a Ducati in 2004. He is heading to MotoGP next year on the Tech3 Yamaha.

Alain Prost (Ferrari 641) and Ayrton Senna (Mclaren MP4-5B), premeditated?
F1 has not seen a rivalry like it since Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost were caught not shaking hands in 1990. Sir Jackie Stewart has accused the FIA of having a "big brother attitude" in its handling of the title race between Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton. F1's governing body has appointed a special scrutineer to ensure McLaren give equal treatment to their drivers in the decisive race at Interlagos. But president Max Mosley said the FIA is simply ensuring rules are respected, "How else can we stuff up McLaren's attempt to win the title from it's rightful owners - Ferrari?" he said. Kimi Raikkonen refused to comment on the ruling as he was still wearing Max Mosley's bathrobe.

Loeb/Elena (Citroen C4 WRC) and Gronholm/Rautiainen (Ford Focus WRC07)
The WRC drivers championship is not fizzing out. Triple world champion Sebastien Loeb won his home event, the Rally of France, to close the gap on championship leader Marcus Gronholm. Just Japan, Ireland and GB to go, and only four points in it...

Norifumi Abe (7/9/1975 - 7/10/2007) and Colin McRae (5/8/1968 - 15/9/2007)
We first saw Norrick Abe in 1994 at Suzuka where as an unknown wildcard he ran at the front until crashing out 3 corners from the end. He won that GP in 1996 and for five years or so always figured amongst the front guys during a period that was absolutely dominated by Mick Doohan. He died near home when the scooter he was riding went under an illegally u-turning truck. RIP Norrick and Colin.
